Winds on Krk Island
🇬🇧 The island of Krk is known for its diverse wind systems, which can strongly influence weather conditions, especially along the coast. The most well-known wind is the Bora, a cold and dry wind from the northeast that often occurs in winter (December–February). It usually brings clear skies but can create strong gusts. In contrast, the Jugo is a warm and humid wind from the southeast, often associated with clouds, rain and waves, and is common in autumn and spring (October–November, March–April). During summer (June–August), the Maestral is the most pleasant wind, blowing from the northwest in the afternoon and creating ideal conditions for beachgoers and water activities.
What to Know
Understanding these winds can help plan your stay. The Bora can appear suddenly and is strongest in exposed coastal areas, while the Jugo may bring unsettled weather for several days. The Maestral is a welcome cooling breeze during hot summer afternoons and offers the best conditions for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing or paddleboarding. Mornings are usually calmer and ideal for swimming or kayaking. Additional winds such as Tramontana (north), Levant (east), Pulenat (west) and Oštro (south) are less frequent but can briefly affect sea conditions. Checking the wind forecast before heading to the beach or planning a boat trip is recommended.
Was man wissen sollte
Poznavanje ovih vjetrova pomaže u planiranju boravka.
