Zarok Sandy Area - A unique natural landscape on Krk
🇬🇧 The Zarok sandy area near Baška is one of the most unique natural landscapes on the island of Krk. Scientists consider it a place of high geological and botanical importance, shaped over thousands of years.
The visible layers of sand and gravel tell a story of past climates. During the Ice Age, glaciers, rivers and streams formed these layers, alternating between colder and warmer periods. These natural processes created the striking formations that can still be seen today.
In the past, sand was taken from this area for construction and even used to expand nearby beaches. These interventions damaged parts of this fragile ecosystem and affected rare and endemic plant species that once grew here.

Früher wurde hier Sand abgebaut und sogar genutzt, um Strände zu vergrößern. Diese Eingriffe haben Teile dieses empfindlichen Ökosystems zerstört und seltene Pflanzen beeinträchtigt.

🇭🇷 Pješčara Zarok kod Baške jedno je od najposebnijih prirodnih područja na otoku Krku. Znanstvenici je smatraju mjestom velike geološke i botaničke važnosti koje je nastajalo tisućama godina.
Vidljivi slojevi pijeska i šljunka pričaju priču o prošlim klimatskim razdobljima. Tijekom ledenog doba ledenjaci, rijeke i potoci oblikovali su ove slojeve izmjenom hladnih i toplih faza.
U prošlosti se pijesak ovdje iskopavao i koristio za proširenje plaža. Time je oštećen osjetljiv ekosustav i ugrožene su rijetke biljne vrste.
