🇬🇧 One of the oldest monuments of the Croatian language
The Baška Tablet is one of the most important historical artifacts in Croatia. It was discovered near Baška in the village of Jurandvor.
Dating back to around the year 1100, the stone tablet is written in Glagolitic script, one of the oldest Slavic alphabets. It represents one of the earliest written records of the Croatian language and is a key symbol of Croatian cultural identity.
The inscription documents a land donation by King Zvonimir to a Benedictine monastery, making it not only linguistically but also historically significant.
Today, the original tablet is preserved in Zagreb, while a replica can be seen in the Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor.
🇩🇪 Eines der ältesten Denkmäler der kroatischen Sprache
Die Baška-Tafel ist eines der bedeutendsten historischen Zeugnisse Kroatiens und wurde nahe Baška im Ort Jurandvor entdeckt.
Sie stammt aus der Zeit um das Jahr 1100 und ist in glagolitischer Schrift verfasst, einer der ältesten slawischen Schriftarten. Damit gilt sie als eines der frühesten schriftlichen Zeugnisse der kroatischen Sprache und als wichtiges Symbol der kulturellen Identität.
Die Inschrift dokumentiert eine Landschenkung des kroatischen Königs Zvonimir an ein Benediktinerkloster und ist somit auch historisch von großer Bedeutung.
Heute befindet sich das Original in Zagreb, während in der Kirche der Heiligen Lucia in Jurandvor eine Nachbildung zu sehen ist.

Bašćanska ploča jedan je od najvažnijih povijesnih spomenika u Hrvatskoj. Pronađena je u blizini Baška, u mjestu Jurandvor.
Potječe iz oko 1100. godine i napisana je glagoljicom, jednim od najstarijih slavenskih pisama. Smatra se jednim od najstarijih pisanih dokaza hrvatskog jezika i važnim simbolom nacionalnog identiteta.
Natpis govori o darovanju zemlje kralja Zvonimira benediktinskom samostanu, što joj daje i veliku povijesnu važnost.
Danas se original čuva u Zagrebu, dok se replika može vidjeti u crkvi svete Lucije u Jurandvoru.
