🇬🇧 The Frankopan Castle on Kamplin Square is one of the most important historical landmarks in Krk City. Built by the noble Frankopan family over several centuries, it reflects the power and influence of one of Croatia’s most important noble dynasties.
The oldest part of the complex is the square tower, dating back to 1191, as confirmed by an inscription above the entrance. It was built during the time of Bishop Ivan and the princes Bartol and Vid, with the support of the local community.
Later, a round tower was added in the northern part, likely in the 13th century. The entire fortress complex was completed before 1348 and later restored around 1480 and 1600.
A special detail is the stone relief of the Lion of St Mark, symbolizing Venetian rule, with an inscription from the year 1500. The complex also includes additional towers, a guard house and former living quarters for soldiers.
🇩🇪 Das Kastell der Frankopanen am Platz Kamplin gehört zu den wichtigsten historischen Bauwerken in Krk Stadt. Es wurde über mehrere Jahrhunderte von der adeligen Familie Frankopan errichtet und zeigt ihren Einfluss und ihre Macht.
Der älteste Teil ist der quadratische Turm aus dem Jahr 1191, belegt durch eine Inschrift über dem Eingang. Er entstand zur Zeit des Bischofs Ivan sowie der Fürsten Bartol und Vid mit Unterstützung der Bevölkerung.
Später wurde im nördlichen Teil ein runder Turm ergänzt, vermutlich im 13. Jahrhundert. Der gesamte Komplex wurde vor 1348 fertiggestellt und später um 1480 und 1600 erneuert.
Besonders auffällig ist die Darstellung des Löwen des Hl. Markus, ein Zeichen der venezianischen Herrschaft, mit einer Inschrift aus dem Jahr 1500. Zum Kastell gehören außerdem weitere Türme, ein Wächterhaus und frühere Unterkünfte für Soldaten.
🇭🇷 Frankopanski kaštel na trgu Kamplin jedno je od najvažnijih povijesnih mjesta u gradu Krku. Gradila ga je plemićka obitelj Frankopan kroz više stoljeća, što pokazuje njihovu moć i utjecaj.
Najstariji dio kompleksa je četvrtasti toranj iz 1191. godine, što potvrđuje natpis iznad ulaza. Izgrađen je u vrijeme biskupa Ivana te knezova Bartola i Vida uz pomoć lokalnog stanovništva.
Kasnije je na sjevernom dijelu izgrađen okrugli toranj, vjerojatno u 13. stoljeću. Cijeli kompleks dovršen je prije 1348. godine, a obnovljen oko 1480. i 1600.
Poseban detalj je reljef lava sv. Marka, simbol mletačke vlasti, s natpisom iz 1500. godine. Kaštel uključuje i dodatne kule, stražarnicu te prostore za vojnike.
