🇬🇧 The Archaeological Park Mirine Fulfinum near Omišalj is one of the most fascinating historical sites on Krk. The ancient Roman city of Fulfinum developed in the 1st century and its remains are still hidden in the area of Mirine, partly underground and even beneath the sea.
In the nearby Sepen Bay you can find the ruins of a large early Christian basilica from the 5th century, considered one of the largest in the Mediterranean. Later, a Benedictine abbey dedicated to St. Nicholas was built on this site, first mentioned in historical documents in 1252.
Today, the area is still being explored by archaeologists. Walking through the ruins, you can discover remains of churches, settlements and fortifications while being surrounded by nature and the sea.
🇩🇪 Der Archäologische Park Mirine Fulfinum bei Omišalj gehört zu den spannendsten historischen Orten auf Krk. Die antike römische Stadt Fulfinum entwickelte sich im 1. Jahrhundert und ihre Überreste liegen bis heute in Mirine verborgen – teilweise unter der Erde und sogar unter dem Meer.
In der Bucht Sepen befinden sich außerdem die Ruinen einer frühchristlichen Basilika aus dem 5. Jahrhundert, die als eine der größten im Mittelmeerraum gilt. Später wurde an dieser Stelle eine Benediktinerabtei des Hl. Nikolaus errichtet, die erstmals 1252 erwähnt wurde.
Bis heute wird das Gebiet archäologisch erforscht. Beim Spaziergang durch die Anlage entdeckst du Überreste von Kirchen, Siedlungen und alten Mauern – direkt inmitten von Natur und Meer.
🇭🇷 Arheološki park Mirine Fulfinum kod Omišlja jedno je od najzanimljivijih povijesnih mjesta na otoku Krku. Antički rimski grad Fulfinum razvijao se u 1. stoljeću, a njegovi ostaci i danas se nalaze na području Mirina – djelomično pod zemljom, ali i pod morem.
U uvali Sepen nalaze se i ostaci ranokršćanske bazilike iz 5. stoljeća, koja se smatra jednom od najvećih na Mediteranu. Kasnije je na tom mjestu izgrađena benediktinska opatija sv. Nikole, prvi put spomenuta 1252. godine.
Područje se i danas istražuje, a šetnjom kroz lokalitet možeš vidjeti ostatke crkava, naselja i utvrda uz more i prirodu.
