🇬🇧 History of Baška
Baška is not only known for its beaches but also as one of the most historically significant places on Krk. Its history dates back many centuries and is closely connected to the development of Croatian culture.
The area was already inhabited in ancient times, but Baška gained particular importance during the Middle Ages, when it became a religious and cultural center.
One of the most important discoveries is the Baška Tablet, created around the year 1100. It is one of the oldest written monuments of the Croatian language and was found near Baška, in the Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor. The inscription is written in Glagolitic script and reflects the early development of Croatian identity.
Over the centuries, Baška was influenced by different rulers, including the Romans, Byzantines, and Venetians. Each of these periods left traces that can still be seen today.
Today, Baška combines its rich history with modern tourism, offering more than just beaches for those who take a closer look.

Baška ist nicht nur für seinen Strand bekannt, sondern auch einer der historisch bedeutendsten Orte auf Krk. Die Geschichte reicht viele Jahrhunderte zurück und ist eng mit der Entwicklung der kroatischen Kultur verbunden.
Bereits in der Antike war die Region besiedelt, ihre größte Bedeutung erlangte Baška jedoch im Mittelalter als religiöses und kulturelles Zentrum.
Das bekannteste Fundstück ist die Baška-Tafel, die um das Jahr 1100 entstand. Sie gilt als eines der ältesten schriftlichen Zeugnisse der kroatischen Sprache und wurde in der Kirche der Heiligen Lucia in Jurandvor gefunden. Die Inschrift ist in glagolitischer Schrift verfasst und zeigt die frühe Entwicklung der kroatischen Identität.
Im Laufe der Zeit wurde Baška von verschiedenen Kulturen geprägt, darunter Römer, Byzantiner und Venezianer. Diese Einflüsse sind bis heute spürbar.
Heute verbindet Baška seine Geschichte mit modernem Tourismus und bietet mehr als nur Strandurlaub.

Baška nije poznata samo po svojim plažama, već i kao jedno od povijesno najvažnijih mjesta na Krk. Njezina povijest seže stoljećima unatrag i usko je povezana s razvojem hrvatske kulture.
Područje je bilo naseljeno još u antičko doba, ali najveći značaj Baška dobiva u srednjem vijeku kao vjersko i kulturno središte.
Najpoznatiji nalaz je Bašćanska ploča, nastala oko 1100. godine. Smatra se jednim od najstarijih pisanih spomenika hrvatskog jezika, a pronađena je u crkvi svete Lucije u Jurandvoru. Natpis je pisan glagoljicom i svjedoči o ranoj hrvatskoj pismenosti i identitetu.
Kroz povijest su na Bašku utjecali Rimljani, Bizantinci i Mlečani, ostavljajući tragove koji su vidljivi i danas.
Danas Baška spaja svoju bogatu povijest s modernim turizmom i nudi više od samog odmora na plaži.
